Although you may understandably think the African light will be very bright, you need to bear in mind that many game drives are early morning and late evening (when most animals are more active) and therefore light levels may not be as high as you would imagine. In this situation a binocular with a large objective lens would be very useful. If weight considerations allow it, an 8x42 would be perfect. If you are limited in weight, consider an 8x25.

    The LC2 10x50 monocular is waterproof and nitrogen filled to prevent the fogging up of internal lens elements in cold, damp conditions. They feature the same optical glass as the LC2 series binoculars with Bak4 prisms and multi-coated lenses for great optical performance, Weighing in at only 420g they are a great choice when size and weight are important. The 50mm objective lens gives a bright image even in poor light.

    The monocular will fit on any standard tripod.

    I must say the LC2 series which are nitrogen filled were fantastic! I packed a pair on one of my trips to Botswana and it proved to be a worthwhile investment as it weighs so little, so if you are lugging heavy bags, there is no reason why you cannot take this little beauty with you.
